Lately, Tun Dr.Mahathir Mohamad’s leaving UMNO was the news of the week but no major impact came about from the country’s most remembered 4th premier who still rattles the nerves of the current ruling federal government especially the incumbent PM Najib Razak.
This is the second leaving of UMNO by Tun Dr.Mahathir after he resurrected the main political party heading the Barisan Nasional coalition. To us, the average citizen of Malaysia, it makes no difference to our lives as to who stays or leaves UMNO, BN or even this worldly life.
Not a jot!
We still have to survive on our own and all these political shenanigans by any Ahmad, Ah Seng or Samy is of no significance to us. Malaysia has somewhat been sidetracked from the terrific progress it was making to becoming a truly developed first world country when Mahathir was calling the shots from Putrajaya!
When he quit in 2003 after surviving 22 long years of political power at the helm of government, Malaysia stumbled and sputtered undecidedly when Abdullah Badawi replaced Mahathir as the country’s 5th PM. He undid many of Mahathir’s programs and opened up the many steps Mahathir had taken to keep rogue political elements in check.
Mahathir was prevented from raising his views publicly through the mainstream media and he sought the social media platform to speak his mind.
I was amongst those who recommended Tun Dr.Mahathir to start blogging when we were all gathered at Kelab Century Paradise for our first social media practitioners pow wow organised by Raja Petra Kamarudin @ RPK.

After the BN fared very poorly in the 2008 12th General Elections losing Penang, Selangor, Kedah, etc. under Abdullah Badawi’s poor leadership, Najib Razak started muscling his way to force Abdullah Badawi to quit added with pressure from Tun Dr.Mahathir’s still potent political influence!
Things turned from bad to worse under Najib Razak’s no holds barred political wheeling and dealing plus unabashed money politics rearing its ugly head in all levels of the political conundrum infesting our beleaguered nation to this very day!
For someone who was labelled as a political softie who got to be where he is today as a reason of riding on his late father’s political coattail and taking the express lift up the echelons of power instead of toiling hard up the political ladders a step at a time like everyone else, Najib Razak has slowly but surely turned into a stoic political dictator whom even wily ol’ Tun Dr.Mahathir can’t dislodge!
He has amassed quite a sizable personal fortune by going all out to feather his proverbial nest and does not shy away from flaunting his opulence every now and then together with his equally attention seeking spouse.
During Mahathir’s 22 long years of premiership, Tun Dr.Siti Hasmah seldom hogged the limelight and never stole Mahathir’s thunder unlike what Rosmah Mansor tends to do at any given opportunity. Abdullah Badawi’s 2nd wife Tun Jeanne Abdullah herself kept away from the media spotlight during his premiership until Abdullah threw in the proverbial towel in 2013.
The average Malaysian really doesn’t give a rats ass about all these political theatrics of Mahathir, Abdullah Badawi and now being pulled by Najib Razak! At the end of the day, these politicians retire to their personal and state sponsored palatial mansions, live and enjoy the good life whilst common folks like you and me still have to strive like hell in order to make our ends meet.
Najib’s getting exposed as the recipient of RM2.6 Billion into his personal bank account caused everyone to go gaga and despite his denials in the early stage of that fiasco later admitted to getting the world’s largest ‘donation’ to date from a yet to be identified mysterious Middle Eastern donor.
Najib has now claimed to have returned the billions but that is still unconfirmed and lately even the Saudis who were said to have given away the money have come forward to say they have no blooming idea about the said donation themselves.
For questioning Najib about the humongous donation, his Deputy PM, Muhyiddin Yassin and UMNO Sabah big shot Shafie Apdal got the axe and were removed from their ministerial positions and sent to the Malaysian political wilderness.
Mahathir’s own son, Mukhriz who was appointed as the Kedah Chief Minister when BN won back the state in the 13th GE was recently pressured to resign and a Najib’s apple polisher was shooed in as his replacement.
All these fellows @ Muhyiddin, Shafie and Mukhriz are ‘play safe’ politicians and they never dared to go against Najib directly compared to Tun Dr.Mahathir, the legendary UMNO ‘godfather. Only Tun Dr.Mahathir has the ‘balls’ to state the obvious!
Their responses and comments are usually quite lame and uttered in such a way that they won’t get skewered legally as a political backlash from Mr.Pink Lips who is relishing his success in getting away scot-free from all the accusations against him by his political enemies.

Najib has also succeeded in firing the Attorney-General Tan Sri Gani Patail who was said to have started legal proceedings to nail him for the RM2.6B ‘super duper donation’ which was said to actually be from the controversial 1MDB project and not the said ‘Saudi’ based donor.
The country’s ‘teflon-coated’ 6th Prime Minister has also managed to send Anwar Ibrahim, another prominent opposition political juggernaut to jail for 5 years on a 2nd sodomy charge which Anwar managed to wriggle out from an earlier imprisonment term during Mahathir’s rule.
This and the tragic death of prominent Member of Parliament, DAP’s Karpal Singh, the main opposition leader who had remained UMNO’s stoic pain in the ass all these years has benefited Najib Razak tremendously.
The passing of PAS’s Spiritual Chief, former Kelantan Menteri Besar Nik Aziz has also removed another very vocal critic from Najib’s list of headaches.
The Malaysian Opposition today has lost many of its figureheads by the disintegration of Parti Islam Malaysia into two by the emergence of Parti Amanah Negara from its ranks and the future looks bleak for an alternative lineup for Malaysian registered voters to choose as a replacement for the current politically corrupt ruling BN government.

DAP is at loggerheads with PAS and PKR in a way are no longer enjoying mass support as and when Anwar was around. Even UMNO no longer has the party’s grassroots support since Najib Razak started his scalping his vocal critics from the ones who were once his cabinet’s top dogs.
Today, Najib has surrounded himself with his personal ‘Brasso Brigade’ who hurry to his defence and snap at anyone who dares to bark at him or his wife! The people no longer respect the current government and can’t wait for the 14th GE to arrive.
We can’t afford not to vote either! The crooks robbing us blind today would have a field day rampaging as they damn well please for another 5 years!

Problem is, who are we going to vote for? On either sides of the political divide, we see not that many whom we can either trust or depend on to return Malaysia on its way to a better future.

Isn’t that so?
