The latest attempt by the Christians here in Malaysia to create a storm in a teacup has come to its apex when their recalcitrant stand to continue using the term ‘Allah’ in their publications has now come to be discussed at the national level via RTM TV1 last night.

I watched the live telecast and was quite pleased to see and listen to the 3 distinguished panelists in the form of a former Christian priest who has embraced Islam and now being a Da’ee over there in Kuching’s Islamic Information Centre, the President of Malaysia’s Chinese Muslims and an academic from Malaysia’s oldest university.

Each distinguished guest explained crystal clearly as to why it is wrong for the Christians to use the term ‘Allah’ to represent their idea of Almighty God because Allah is unique and sovereign on His Own and must never be misrepresented to be what the Christians here imagine Him to be?

In the Holy Qur’an Chapter 112, Surah Al Ikhlas @ Purity (of Faith) , Allah the Almighty describes Himself by this revelation :

1. Qul huwa Allahu ahadun

1. Say: He is Allah, the One and Only;

2. Allahu alssamadu

2. Allah, the Eternal, Absolute;

3. Lam yalid walam yooladu

3. He begets not, nor is He begotten;

4. Walam yakun lahu kufuwan ahadun

4. And there is none like unto Him.

Brothers and sisters,

Allah the Almighty crystal clearly is telling us that He is One. Allah is Eternal unlike us mortal beings who come into being with His Will and live or die as He pleases. Allah also tells us clearly that He does not beget (procreate) and that He Himself was not born or created for He is The Creator. Allah completes this Surah by telling us Mankind that there is none like Him.

Four short verses but which in actuality contain oceans of information to those who have it in them to think and comprehend.

Let’s take the first verse.

“Qul huwallah hu Ahad!”

Say (O Muhammad) that Allah is One.

God is One.

We must see this as clear as it is. There is no such thing as 3 in 1 unless of course you are talking about the various coffee mixtures nowadays which are sold in the easy to use packs.

The dogma about Trinity which the amazingly confused folks amongst the Christian community worldwide ascribe to is just so unbelievable and obviously self imagined that only those who succeed in coming out of that self imposed mindset can clearly see as to why its preposterous to have 3 imaginary Godlike characters who when necessary morph into one as what the Christians would have themselves believe?

As a Caller to Islam, I have all these while kept myself out of the fray of those who relish to hurl insults and accusations between the Muslims and the Christians for I cherish not having to rub salt into anybody’s wounds especially into the hearts and souls of my Christian brothers and sisters who as I see them are mostly made up of good gentle souls who cherish goodwill and love life itself but are sadly caught up in the bog of innovative religious dogma and assumptions.

I’m not saying that Muslims are picture perfect and absolutely sinless either. We all know that we have equal numbers of people who imagine this and that and often commit shirk and khurafat practices in the name of Islam and are at times even worse than the Kaffirs out there.

I am drawn into speaking about the Christians here due to one reason only. The current brouhaha about the Christians who publish the Herald Magazine to use the term ‘Allah’ instead of Tuhan in their Malay version of their church newsletter.

You see, whether we like it or not, the usage of Allah can lead to confusion amongst both Christians and Muslims alike if and when they do not have a strong solid base in their respective bedrock of beliefs.

I won’t worry too much about the Christians for it is entirely up to them to learn and discover what their creed is about but I’m concerned as to the state of faith of the young and clueless amongst the rising number of Malaysia’s wayward Malay youths of today.

Let’s call a spade just that and the failure of the religious authorities of Malaysia in seeing to it that Dakwah al Islamiyyah should have been carried out in the real sense from day one of this nation getting free from the British Colonial rule in 1957.

Whether we like it or not, we have to dig into the truth and expose the root cause for the growing ignorance amongst the Malays as to what Islam is and what it is not?

The Malay Sultans despite having the amanah of being the ‘Keepers of Islam’ have failed in general to carry out their duties and roles in the truest sense of the word.

Just having Malaysians forcibly read and profess the Rukunegara where we are told to :

Belief in God
Be loyal to the King and Country
Submit to the Laws.
Uphold the Constitution
Be moral and civil.

…doesn’t really produce the exemplary citizens that the founding fathers of this nation wished for?

We have the ‘Belief in God’ expressed in our nation’s schoolgoing children and youngsters exercise books but in reality the gist of that principle is not professed with the deepest understanding and acceptance as it should?

We can just go up to any school kid and ask him or her as to what they understand to be God?

How many of even the adults of this land can actually come up with a satisfying answer as to who or what God is?

I don’t wish to touch upon the other faiths.

I want to talk about Allah as per what we who are Muslims are expected to believe in and ought to come up with satisfying answers?

To me, the Surah Al Ikhlas compounds the whole identity of Allah to the ‘T’.

Qul hu wallah hu Ahad.

Say Allah is One.

I accept that, plain and simple. I prefer to keep things simple.

Its a bloody waste of time for me to go dig too deep into this and that just to justify as to why I accept that there is only One God and that God is Allah!

I have no doubts about it at all.

I can’t allow any doubts to offset my firm and absolute belief that there is any other supreme being worthy of worship other than Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala.

If I have the slightest of doubts about that, I’d cease to be a Muslim.

That would be impossible for I am one who believes to the very last cell or atom in my body and soul that there is only One Rabb. One Creator and He is Almighty Allah.

For the Christians to come publish their description of God as they imagine Him to be 1 out of 3, is simply too preposterous for me and the rest of the Muslims here in Malaysia to accept that the ‘Allah’ that they describe their imagined deity to be is the very same Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala that we Muslims believe in and submit ourselves to!

To me that is a pretension of believing in Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala on the part of the Roman Catholic Christians of Malaysia who publish their ‘Herald’ magazine which gives way to confusion to set in the hearts and minds of all those impressionable minds out there who would come to a generalization that Christianity and Islam is the same when we have these people publishing and using the term ‘Allah’ to define their Christian concept of God and their Trinity. 3 in 1.

That we can’t accept and just let it be.

No way.

A true Muslim must never let those who are out to undermine the supremacy of Allah’s true faith of Al Islam here in Malaysia to be infiltrated and confused with their self imagined beliefs and concepts of belief.

Muslims wouldn’t be bothered to interfere or question the Christians in any way here in Malaysia if the publishers of the Herald magazine had used the proper Malay translation of ‘Tuhan’ to describe ‘God’ in their publications.

Yes Sir.

We will just mind our own business and let the Christians or any other faith adherents to go about their own set of beliefs and customs.

We have much more better and important things to do in our own life’s.

Yet this stubbornness on the part of the Christian publishers of the in church publication magazine who insist on using the term ‘Allah’ to describe their concept of God is deliberately creating a religious crisis in this nation to as I suspect to merit foreign intervention into the affairs of this nation and subsequently legitimize foreign attack and assault upon this country’s sovereignty.

Who knows?

This is my own suspicion and I reserve the right to fear for my country as a loyal rightful citizen of Malaysia and a supporter of the Islamic authorities of Malaysia.

We have seen the foreign invasion and subsequent occupation of the once strong, rich with natural resources Muslim nation such as Iraq by the United States of America and the UK.

We have seen Afghanistan, a poor struggling Muslim nation be blasted back to the Stone Age by the Christians of America and the same colonial oppressor which is Britain.

We see American and British hands behind the tragedy that is Palestine which has been handed on a silver platter to the Zionist regime using their military might to rob the Palestinians of their lands and the systematic massacre and genocide of the Muslims there, right before the very eyes of the whole cuckolded world’s nations.

This obstinacy on the part of the Herald magazine publishers seems to not be just an idle act of recalcitrance on their part.

Even the distinguished panelists last night on RTM’s TV 1 spoke of hidden agenda’s on the part of the Catholic Christians in publishing that magazine using the term of ‘Allah’ to describe their version of God.

The Christians pretend to worship Allah by using the term when in actuality they seriously do not submit to the very first verse of the blessed Surah Al Ikhlas.
Qul hu wallah hu ahad!

Say Allah is One! I call upon the Christian publishers to agree with us Muslims that there is only one Allah!

Come say with us that there is only One God and that He is Allah as they wish to address Him to be and the Christians who are publishing the Herald will find me to become one of their strongest supporters for the right to use ‘Allah’ in their publications.

I do not wish to go further on the subject. Just this one singular aspect covers it all.

Let’s reflect on the mission of Allah’s Final Messenger here on Earth who was appointed to call the pagans of Makkah a thousand four hundred over years ago to testify that ‘ There is only One God’ and that God is none but Allahu Ta’ala!

He, Muhammad Sallalahu Alaihi Wassallam, the Seal of the Prophets, did that for 13 long years in Makkah al Mukkarramah before the Hijrah to Madinah al Munawwarah.

Just calling people to worship only ONE GOD! Allah Azza Wa Jalla.

I invite with the best of intentions my Christian fellow Malaysians to attest with us who are Muslims the Declaration that ‘ There is only one Allah!

Come make an open statement that you agree with us that you too worship and glorify only One God!

I declare that you will find us to be your most ardent supporters to have the right to publish using ‘Allah’ in your publications.

Allah ( God )

“To God ( Allah ) belongs 99 names”

It is a known fact that every language has one or more terms that are used in reference to God and sometimes to lesser deities. This is not the case with Allah. Allah is the personal name of the One true God. Nothing else can be called Allah. The term has no plural or gender. This shows its uniqueness when compared with the word god which can be made plural, gods, or feminine, goddess. It is interesting to notice that Allah is the personal name of God in Aramaic, the language of Jesus and a sister language of Arabic.

The One true God is a reflection of the unique concept that Islam associates with God. To a Muslim, Allah is the Almighty, Creator and Sustainer of the universe, Who is similar to nothing and nothing is comparable to Him. The Prophet Muhammad was asked by his contemporaries about Allah; the answer came directly from God Himself in the form of a short chapter of the Quran, which is considered the essence of the unity or the motto of monotheism. This is chapter 112 which reads:

“In the name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate.
Say (O Muhammad) He is God the One God, the Everlasting Refuge, who has not begotten, nor has been begotten, and equal to Him is not anyone.”

Some non-Muslims allege that God in Islam is a stern and cruel God who demands to be obeyed fully. He is not loving and kind. Nothing can be farther from truth than this allegation. It is enough to know that, with the exception of one, each of the 114 chapters of the Quran begins with the verse: “In the name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate.” In one of the sayings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) we are told that “God is more loving and kinder than a mother to her dear child.”

But God is also Just. Hence evildoers and sinners must have their share of punishment and the virtuous, His bounties and favors. Actually God’s attribute of Mercy has full manifestation in His attribute of Justice. People suffering throughout their lives for His sake and people oppressing and exploiting other people all their lives should not receive similar treatment from their Lord. Expecting similar treatment for them will amount to negating the very belief in the accountability of man in the Hereafter and thereby negating all the incentives for a moral and virtuous life in this world. The following Quranic verses are very clear and straightforward in this respect:

“Verily, for the Righteous are gardens of Delight, in the Presence of their Lord. Shall We then treat the people of Faith like the people of Sin? What is the matter with you? How judge you?” (68:34-36)

Islam rejects characterizing God in any human form or depicting Him as favoring certain individuals or nations on the basis of wealth, power or race. He created the human beings as equals. They may distinguish themselves and get His favor through virtue and piety only.

The concept that God rested in the seventh day of creation, that God wrestled with one of His soldiers, that God is an envious plotter against mankind, or that God is incarnate in any human being are considered blasphemy from the Islamic point of view.

The unique usage of Allah as a personal name of God is a reflection of Islam’s emphasis on the purity of the belief in God which is the essence of the message of all God’s messengers. Because of this, Islam considers associating any deity or personality with God as a deadly sin which God will never forgive, despite the fact He may forgive all other sins.

[Note that what is meant above applies ONLY to those people who die in a state wherein they are associating others with God. The repentance of those who yet live is acceptable to God if He wills. – MSA of USC]

The Creator must be of a different nature from the things created because if he is of the same nature as they are, he will be temporal and will therefore need a maker. It follows that nothing is like Him. If the maker is not temporal, then he must be eternal. But if he is eternal, he cannot be caused, and if nothing outside him causes him to continue to exist, which means that he must be self-sufficient. And if the does not depend on anything for the continuance of his own existence, then this existence can have no end. The Creator is therefore eternal and everlasting: “He is the First and the Last.”

He is Self-Sufficient or Self-Subsistent or, to use a Quranic term, Al-Qayyum. The Creator does not create only in the sense of bringing things into being, He also preserves them and takes them out of existence and is the ultimate cause of whatever happens to them.

“God is the Creator of everything. He is the guardian over everything. Unto Him belong the keys of the heavens and the earth.” (39:62, 63)

“No creature is there crawling on the earth, but its provision rests on God. He knows its lodging place and it repository.” (11:6)

God’s Attributes

If the Creator is Eternal and Everlasting, then His attributes must also be eternal and everlasting. He should not lose any of His attributes nor acquire new ones. If this is so, then His attributes are absolute. Can there be more than one Creator with such absolute attributes? Can there be for example, two absolutely powerful Creators? A moment’s thought shows that this is not feasible.

The Quran summarizes this argument in the following verses:

“God has not taken to Himself any son, nor is there any god with Him: For then each god would have taken of that which he created and some of them would have risen up over others.” (23:91)

And Why, were there gods in earth and heaven other than God, they (heaven and earth) would surely go to ruin.” (21:22)

The Oneness of God

The Quran reminds us of the falsity of all alleged gods. To the worshippers of man-made objects, it asks:

“Do you worship what you have carved yourself?” (37:95)

“Or have you taken unto you others beside Him to be your protectors, even such as have no power either for good or for harm to themselves?” (13:16)

To the worshippers of heavenly bodies it cites the story of Abraham:

“When night outspread over him he saw a star and said, ‘This is my Lord.’ But when it set he said, ‘I love not the setters.’ When he saw the moon rising, he said, ‘This is my Lord.’ But when it set he said, ‘If my Lord does not guide me I shall surely be of the people gone astray.’ When he saw the sun rising, he said, ‘This is my Lord; this is greater.’ But when it set he said, ‘O my people, surely I quit that which you associate, I have turned my face to Him Who originated the heavens and the earth; a man of pure faith, I am not of the idolaters.'” (6:76-79)

The Believer’s Attitude

In order to be a Muslim, i.e., to surrender oneself to God, it is necessary to believe in the oneness of God, in the sense of His being the only Creator, Preserver, Nourisher, etc. But this belief – later on called “Tawhid Ar-Rububiyyah” – is not enough. Many of the idolaters knew and believed that only the Supreme God could do all this, but that was not enough to make them Muslims. To tawhid ar-rububiyyah one must add tawhid al’uluhiyyah, i.e., one acknowledges the fact that is God alone Who deserves to be worshipped, and thus abstains from worshipping any other thing or being.

Having achieved this knowledge of the one true God, man should constantly have faith in Him, and should allow nothing to induce him to deny truth.

When faith enters a person’s heart, it causes certain mental states which result in certain actions. Taken together these mental states and actions are the proof for the true faith. The Prophet said, “Faith is that which resides firmly in the heart and which is proved by deeds.” Foremost among those mental states is the feeling of gratitude towards God which could be said to be the essence of ‘ibada’ (worship).

The feeling of gratitude is so important that a non-believer is called ‘kafir’ which means ‘one who denies a truth’ and also ‘one who is ungrateful.’

A believer loves, and is grateful to God for the bounties He bestowed upon him, but being aware of the fact that his good deeds, whether mental or physical, are far from being commensurate with Divine favors, he is always anxious lest God should punish him, here or in the Hereafter. He, therefore, fears Him, surrenders himself to Him and serves Him with great humility. One cannot be in such a mental state without being almost all the time mindful of God. Remembering God is thus the life force of faith, without which it fades and withers away.

The Quran tries to promote this feeling of gratitude by repeating the attributes of God very frequently. We find most of these attributes mentioned together in the following verses of the Quran:

“He is God; there is no god but He, He is the Knower of the unseen and the visible; He is the All-Merciful, the All-Compassionate. He is God, there is no God but He. He is the King, the All-Holy, the All-Peace, the Guardian of Faith, the All-Preserver, the All-Mighty, the All-Compeller, the All-Sublime. Glory be to God, above that they associate! He is God the Creator, the Maker, the Shaper. To Him belong the Names Most Beautiful. All that is in the heavens and the earth magnifies Him; He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.” (59:22-24)

“There is no god but He, the Living, the Everlasting. Slumber seizes Him not, neither sleep; to Him belongs all that is in the heavens and the earth. Who is there that shall intercede with Him save by His leave? He knows what lies before them and what is after them, and they comprehend not anything of His knowledge save such as He wills. His throne comprises the heavens and earth; the preserving of them oppresses Him not; He is the All-High, the All-Glorious.” (2:255)

“People of the Book, go not beyond the bounds in your religion, and say not as to God but the truth. The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was only the Messenger of God, and His Word that He committed to Mary, and a Spirit from Him. So believe in God and His Messengers, and say not, ‘Three.’ Refrain; better is it for you. God is only one God. Glory be to Him – (He is) above having a son.” (4:171)
