This video shows how ABC, the American Broadcasting Corporation did an experiment using hired actors to portray a prejudiced American store clerk discriminating against a Muslim customer and how a few Americans sided with his discrimination towards the Muslim lady whilst the majority of the Americans stood up for the Muslim customer and voiced out their unhappiness towards the store clerk!
I had tears in my eyes watching how these good Americans from amongst the shoppers defended the rights of the Muslimah to be served fairly by the store clerk!
We are lucky to be living in Malaysia amidst so many other races and faiths. As Malaysians we have been born here amongst our friends from different races in relative harmony.
Only by realizing how blinkered and prejudiced the majority of the world’s population are out there do we start to cherish what we have here in Malaysia.
Watch this video and tell me what you think?

I think of in such diversity Americans can still set a good example to defend something that they’re not familiar with, but can we Malaysian do the same?
Wallahu taala alam
Bigotry, be it religious or racial, exist everywhere in this world. In most cases, bigotry results from ignorance, fear, misconception, wrong perception, stereotyping and sadly, self righteousness. The people portrayed in the video are presumably American. While it upsets me watching Americans who were verbally attacking the Muslim woman, I could almost relate their behaviour to mere ignorance and hatred which has been moulded by media. To a certain extent, Muslims are to be blamed as well for this hatred and phobia. I will not elaborate on this but I believe if we look at ourselves inwardly, I am sure we will find faults with ourselves Muslims in general.
However, the frightening thing is not so much about how Americans or Westerners react to Muslims. Over here in Malaysia, how some Muslims react to other Muslims is even more frightening!
Bigotry as I said, exist everywhere. And as far as Muslims are concerned, it even exist from within the Muslims communities itself! Frightening. But true. And no less vicious too, if I may add.
