Kg Kemensah Jungle Recreation Area in Gombak, Selangor

Not many people know of the idyllic jungle retreat that is hidden away in the tropical jungles of Kampong Kemensah, just off the Zoo Negara grounds at Hulu Kelang, Selangor.

On Saturday, I had the good fortune of discovering this natural retreat which was really something that I had never imagined of being there all these while as I had driven past the place hundreds of times all the years since emigrating to KL.

It was more of a tip from a friend of us who told us to go explore the jungles of Gombak through the kampong called Kemensah which is located deep in the jungles from behind Zoo Negara.

First time I chanced upon the set up of the recreation areas I had my doubts as to whether it would satisfy my fixation with the fast flowing rivers of Sg Pangsoon?

I didn’t even want to go in to the ‘dark’ waters of the swimming area which I saw was filled with holidaymakers and what looked like a family day gathering of people and kids frolicking in the waters complete with a ‘Tarzan’ rope from which some boys were continuously swinging from and plunging into the waters with a splash!
My curiosity got the better of me and I eventually braved myself to venture into the waters wearing my flip flops for fear of getting my feet injured from whatever might be in those unfamiliar waters.

Being a diabetic, one must always watch out for the health and safety of one’s feet and yours truly wasn’t going to take any chances.

The water was actually quite clear and clean and the ‘darkness’ that I was a bit apprehensive about was actually the natural decomposing fallen leaves from the trees overhead in the bottom of the waterways.

See for yourselves in the photo above. The water is of drinking quality and free from any contamination or pollution. Alhamdulillah.

I think by now, most of you would probably know that I am a nature lover and if possible just disappear from all the hustle and bustle of the city and escape to such places to bask in nature’s glory as I please.

I enjoy being in the jungle, listening to the sounds of the insects and crickets singing their hearts out and swimming in the freshwater rivers such as Sg Pangsoon and now Sg Kemensah.

I can’t wait to go exploring in the other natural retreats that are around KL and in Selangor.

I have also enjoyed swimming in the rivers of Taman Rimba Ampang but don’t really like having to walk so far in from the carpark at the entrance to the forest reserve there in the foothills of Bukit Belacan, Ampang.

Sg Pangsoon and Sg Kemensah are accessible easily by driving up to the places. That’s a real treat. Not having to walk far as at Taman Rimba Ampang.

More pictures and videos coming after this.
