Friday Prayer Etiquettes – Put them to practice!

Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

I would like to address a serious problem getting out of hand today especially when it is Friday and Muslims gather in large numbers to pray at the mosque.

The problem is a grievous lack of understanding of the Adab @ Etiquettes to be observed during the prayers by Muslims who seem clueless to all the requirements of attending such an important prayer and the failure of the ulamaks to address this problem and nip it in the bud.

9. Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo itha noodiya lilssalati min yawmi aljumuAAati faisAAaw ila thikri Allahi watharoo albayAAa thalikum khayrun lakum in kuntum taAAlamoona

9. O ye who believe! When the call is proclaimed to prayer on Friday (the Day of Assembly), hasten earnestly to the Remembrance of Allah, and leave off business (and traffic): That is best for you if ye but knew!

Al-Quran Surah Al Jumaat Surah 62 Verses 9 to 11.

Every week without fail, we gather at the masjids of this nation and elsewhere, to perform our congregational prayers that is wajib upon us.

Yet, I can’t help but lament the fact that many who gather at the masjids and out of the mosque’s perimeters fail to observe proper decorum that is incumbent upon all who go there to pray!

Many amongst the jamaah fail to observe the adab and sunnah of attending the Solatul Jumaah @ Friday prayers.

Many choose to chat with their friends whilst the Azan is being called out. Traders and hawkers continue nonchalantly with their business failing to listen and comprehend the meanings of the Azan and fail to recite the salutations upon Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala and the Prophet Muhammad Sallalahu Alaihi Wassallam as his name is being called out as the enjoined sunnah upon each rational and knowledgable Muslim.

Is it because they are ignorant about all these or are just plain oblivious of these etiquettes?

What kind of Muslims are those who carry on discussing this and that when the Khatib is reading out the Khutbah?

Yes, it is a sad fact that the Khatibs of this nation are being forced to read prepared and censored texts of what the government wants them to share with the people!

Anyway, the sunnah is for the Muslims gathered at the masjids to listen to the Khutbah in silence and to understand what’s being said or in our case, read to them.

The Friday prayer becomes obsolete to anyone who speaks during the Khutbah and he’s just wasting his time there for neglecting the etiquettes of attending the Solatul Jumaat.

Many do not bother to stand up and pray the Solatul Sunat before and after the main prayers.

Ignorance again? Could be or the masses of Muslims today are just as the froth upon the ocean waves? Large in numbers but carry no weight! Exactly as foretold by Rasulullah SAW!

I don’t even want to speak about the teenagers and small kids , loudly talking amongst themselves or running about here and there, adding to all the fitnah that takes place in and around the mosques of this nation during the Jumaat prayers!

They aren’t the only culprits! Elderly men who are all old and grey are also amongst the clueless miscreants who are equally at fault!

Maybe , they are as they are because no one bothered to reprimand them when they were as those kids and youngsters, turning the Friday prayers as a period of fun and games, catching up on the latest gossips whilst the fella at the mimbar drones on and on, fulfilling his obligations to the government, and not to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala as he should!

Why do I say so? Well, it’s clear cut, isn’t it?

An Imam or Khatib must be responsible enough to preach to the ummah. Not read from prepared scripts.

Any idiot can do that. Read what has been prepared and ‘kowtow’ to the ‘masters! Failing which, they will be taken to task and asked to give a ‘show cause’ letter or risk having their paltry allowance cut off and removed from their ‘position’!

I long for the days of old, when Imams and Khatibs used to preach to us in the real sense and not become stooges or mouthpieces of the current powers that be.

The quality of the Muslims is at an all time low and we see more and more maksiat take place amongst the Ummah and failure on the part of the umara and the so called ulamak to address this problems.

As long as the truth is held to ransom, the plight of the Muslims will go from bad to worse!

You know I am stating the truth, so help me God! Ya Allah! Give us true leaders to lead us to salvation.

The clowns in power at the moment are fast turning the Muslims life’s and affairs into a bloody circus and its being put on show without fail every Friday at noon!

We are doomed for there is no one who has the gonads to stand up to the wrongdoers and take them to task!
