Do Muslims Worship the Ka’abah?

Every now and then, I would come across comments by Non Muslims in the blogs or forums such as at Malaysia-Today.Net stating that we Muslims are no different from them who are idol worshippers.

These people would simply shoot off their mouths by saying that the Muslims worship the ‘Black Cube’ in Makkah al Mukarramah and that we are no different from the ones who prostrate before effigies and deities carved out of wood or sculpted from blocks of stone.

So, it is time for me to set the record straight especially to those here who visit my blog.

The Ka’abah we have today is the one that has been raised by the Prophet Ibrahim Alaihis Salam and his son the Prophet Ismail Alaihis Salam, from whose lineage comes the Greatest Messenger of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala . Khatamun Nabiyyi, Saiyidina Muhammad Sallalahu Alaihi Wassallam.

The foundation of the Holy Ka’abah is the one upon which was raised the first Ka’abah by the Father of all Mankind, the Blessed Prophet Saiyidina Adam Alaihis Salam who raised it with the help of the Angels @ Malaikats of Allah right at the very spot there in the Valley of Bakka as Makkah al Mukarramah was called before.

The location of the Ka’abah is at the very centre of the Earth.

The Ka’abah is raised upon Allah’s Commandment to His Prophet’s Saiyidina Adam Alaihis Salam when Prophet Adam AS was first ordered to descend to Earth from the Heavens above.

The Ka’abah is just a focus point for us Muslims to face when being in Prayer before Almighty Allah, God Most Supreme , Most High.

God is everywhere and we can’t hide from Him but when we stand in prayer, it is commanded for us to be in rows, equal in status and stature amongst us, fellow mankind when being before Him.

There is always a reason as to why we have to do this and that in our life. Standing as equals in rows and rows before God removes any sense of anyone being better than the other when in prayer and it is only in Islam that we see this equality put to practice every single prayer time all over the world.

It is us humans who go overboard in venerating our fellow humans and start paying too much respect and adulation to someone whom we think to be holier than us, much more better to lead us and inadvertently we start hero worshipping that particular individual!

This is what Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala forbids and which was warned against by the Last Prophet Sallalahu Alaihi Wassallam himself.

The Ka’abah is the Qibla @ Direction to which we Muslims face during our Prayers.

We worship Allah Almighty in our hearts and soul and the Ka’abah is just a direction to focus towards. Nothing more , nothing less.

Yet, we love the Ka’abah as a sacred building which was built by the Prophet Adam AS and then raised again by the Prophet Ibrahim AS and his son Prophet Ismail AS after the original was obliterated by the Great Flood during the Prophet Nuh AS’s time.

It is an Amanah entrusted to us Muslims to protect and to preserve the sanctity and the continuous legacy to keep for our future generations of Muslims.

In the Surah Al-Baqarah [2:144]:

” We see the turning of thy face (for guidance to the heavens) : now Shall We turn thee to a Qibla that shall please thee. Turn then Thy face in the direction of the sacred Mosque: Wherever ye are, turn your faces in that direction. The people of the Book know well that that is the truth from their Lord. Nor is Allah unmindful of what they do.”

Islam believes in fostering the Spirit of Brotherhood amongst Mankind as ordered by God and as testified by the Prophet Muhammad Sallalahu Alaihi Wasallam that we are all equal before Allah in his Final Sermon save for those who are more devout in their prayers sincerely before Allah.

We thus put this into practice by focusing our prayers from anywhere we are on this world to the Holy Ka’abah.

A white Caucasian American Muslim or Muslimah praying towards the direction of the Holy Ka’abah is not superior than a black African praying in the hot desert nor any better than the Indian Muslim praying towards the direction of Makkah from Vanarasi in Hindu majority India.

Each of us are judged by Allah SWT according to the level of our individual faith’s and measure of sincerity in our deeds.

Cartographers can testify as the Ka’abah being located at the very center of this Earth.

Neither from the East nor the West, truly Islam is the very best for us mankind to learn about our birthrights and our trust from God almighty to live in this world with justice and fair play to all.

Muslims circumambulate counter clockwise around the Ka’abah as an act that symbolizes the Belief and Worship of One God, one circle having one center and to glorify Allah in unison as Our Lord, Most Supreme, Most High.

Saiyidina Bilal, the first muezzin of Islam , climbed up and stood atop the Ka’abah and called out the Azan when the Prophet Muhammad Sallalahu Alaihi Wassallam conquered the Holy City of Makkah from the Qureish Kaffir Arabs .

If it is true as they say that the Holy Ka’abah is an object of our veneration and worship, then pray tell me which idol worshipper has ever stood atop the very idol that he or she worships?

Muslims are just members of the Brotherhood of Mankind who obey and submit to Allah the Almighty.

We are not free from sin and thus we pray to Allah 5 times a day as commanded by Him in order to seek His Forgiveness for our mistakes which we have committed knowingly or unknowingly from very early before dawn (Fajr Prayers), then at midday (Zohor Prayers), in the afternoon (Asar Prayers), then at sunset (Maghrib Prayers) and at night (‘Isya Prayers) before retiring to bed.

In between we are enjoined to do good, forbid the bad and fight against the evil.

We are those who cherish our God given faith and will continue defending ourselves from all the misleading statements by those who have yet to understand what Islam is and what it is not.

I hope this explanation helps. May Peace be upon us all. Ameen.
